Clerk of Works – Schools Estate (Fabric & Small Works) East London Contract Opportunity Education Sector | 20 School Portfolio
Are you an experienced
Clerk of Works with a strong background in fabric maintenance, refurbishment and quality inspections? We're looking for an experienced professional to oversee a programme of fabric small works and maintenance projects across a portfolio of approximately
20 schools in East London.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, to a high standard and with minimal disruption to live educational environments.
The Role As Clerk of Works, you will act as the client's representative on site, monitoring the quality of works, ensuring compliance with specifications and providing technical oversight across multiple school sites.
Projects will primarily include:
- Fabric repairs and planned maintenance
- Internal and external refurbishments
- Roofing works
- Decorating programmes
- Flooring replacements
- Windows and doors
- Minor building alterations
- General small works projects
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out regular site inspections across approximately 20 schools.
- Monitor contractor performance, workmanship and quality standards.
- Ensure works comply with specifications, drawings and building regulations.
- Identify defects and manage snagging through to completion.
- Produce detailed inspection reports and photographic records.
- Attend progress meetings with contractors, consultants and client representatives.
- Monitor health and safety compliance on site.
- Review programmes and ensure projects remain on schedule.
- Liaise with school stakeholders to minimise disruption during works.
- Verify completed works before handover.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Clerk of Works, Site Inspector or Building Surveyor.
- Strong knowledge of building fabric, maintenance and refurbishment projects.
- Experience overseeing contractors on live sites.
- Excellent understanding of construction quality standards and building regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects across different locations.
- Strong reporting and communication skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience working within the education sector.
- ICWCI accreditation (or working towards).
- Health & Safety qualification such as SMSTS, SSSTS or IOSH.
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
