If you’re considering a recruitment career and looking for a company with clear progression, structured training, and a supportive culture, Boden Group offers a strong platform to build long-term success.
In this Early Career Spotlight, Dan Brown, recruitment consultant at Boden Group, shares his experience of joining Boden Group with no recruitment experience and developing his career through our academy programme.
What attracted you to Boden Group and a recruitment career?
"Recruitment appealed to me because you’re in control of what you earn. Boden stood out because the progression is really clear - you can see how to go from trainee to senior - and the culture felt familiar straight away."
From the outset, Dan was drawn to the autonomy recruitment offers, as well as Boden Group’s transparent career pathways and welcoming culture.
What was it like when you first joined?
"I joined the academy with no recruitment experience and an open mind. It wasn’t just classroom-based, you’re learning and then straight on the phone, putting it into practice, which helps everything click much faster."
Our academy is designed to combine learning with real-world experience, helping new starters build confidence quickly and see progress early on.
What’s been your biggest area of development?
"Building confidence on the phone. Speaking to clients and candidates felt unfamiliar at first, but it quickly became part of my day-to-day role. I’ve also become much more organised and better at prioritising."
Like many people starting out in recruitment, confidence came with practice – alongside valuable skills in organisation and time management.
What achievement are you most proud of so far?
"Passing my probation and getting to a consistent level of billing. It was a big confidence boost and showed I was on the right track."
Reaching this milestone was an important moment in Dan’s journey and a reflection of his hard work and development.
What’s next for you at Boden?
"I’m working towards Senior Consultant and, longer term, moving into management. The pathway is clear, so you always know what you’re aiming for."
Clear progression means Dan can stay focused on his goals, knowing exactly what the next steps look like.
Any advice for new starters?
“Throw yourself into everything, ask questions, and get on the phone. You learn quickest by doing.”
