Here are my top 5 tips for searching for a job during lock-down
1. Update your C.V – Go back to the beginning, spell checking and making sure employment dates are correct with any career gaps explained. You want your C.V to be clear and not overly wordy whilst also providing good details on what your job entails. Think of your C.V as a sales document and use bullet points to outline your key successes in each role
2.Know your unique selling points – Write a list of how you will add value to a new business. Make this personal to you and not generic.
3.Follow up on previous applications – Every business is going through a whirl wind of changes so make a note of when you last followed up on your application and get an update on the hiring process.
4.Do your research – Make a list of 5 top companies you want to work for and why. Now is a great time to really think about what you want from your next job and action plan how you are going to get it.
5.Be prepared for virtual interviews – Even if you are not currently working, create an office space away from noise and distractions. This will give you a professional environment to interview in and a focus area for job searching. Its also a good idea to run through some interview questions in the mirror or with someone in your household.
Above all look after your well-being. Take positive action and make sure you stay connected with others in your network.
