With the current global crisis, working from home seems to be at the tip of everybody’s tongues. Many businesses will have implemented some form of working from home policy in the last few weeks to ensure their business can continue to run effectively.

Understandably many of us may see working from home quite daunting as your daily routines are no longer the same and you will need to make adjustments. So we have taken the time to share some working from home tips with you.

1. Start Your Day and Go To Work

This is probably the most important part of the day. Many people have a routine in the morning whether that be going for a run, going to the gym or taking the children to school etc, we all have a routine.

So try to keep those routines in place as much as you can, go for a run, do a home workout, take a shower, get dressed and have breakfast. If you like to start your morning listening to the radio in your car on the way to work then listen to the radio as you getting prepared to start the day.

Get a good routine in place and be ready to start the day.

2. Office Area and Personal Space

Your working area is key to how you feel throughout the day. Try to keep your working space separate from your private space as this key to ensuring you set clear boundaries between work and personal living space.

Ensure that you have the following:

  • Good lighting
  • Comfortable seat
  • Desk space (sturdy and big enough for your work.)
  • Quiet room/area (so you can have conversations without being distracted.)

3. Taking Regular Breaks

Take regular breaks from your desk/work, just as you would naturally do if you were working in the office. Make a drink, walk around the house/garden etc. If you live with family or a partner take 5 minutes to have a conversation with them.

Pick up the phone or video call your colleagues and have a chat about how your day is going and ask questions if you are struggling with some tasks.

4. Work hard

It’s easier said than done to work on your own, working from home, especially when its new to most of us but the harder we work and communicate, the quicker the day will go and the more you’ll get out of it. Sounds easy but it’s not always the case.

Working hard when not in the office around your team members and colleagues, is easier said than done – especially when its a new way of working.

Ensure your set yourself clear tasks and targets to achieve throughout the day so you don’t feel like you are climbing and endless mountain. Break tasks down into specific steps/activity to help you build a clear plan for the day.

5. Technology and Gadgets

Ensure all your technology, devices and gadgets are set up correctly and working. Check your wifi/internet connection is working and provides strong enough connection to your device where you are located. Your phone reception and connectivity are just as important.
