Supporting the LGBT+ community

November 19, 2019

Boden Group is delighted to have attended the third LGBT+ in FM event on the 14th of November at the Amnesty International facilities in London.

Katie O’Cleary, member of the LGBT+ committee and Talent Manager and Sherrel Solomon, Marketing Executive both attended the event to support the LGBT+ in FM committee, and joined attendees from ISS, Sodexo, Pareto FM, Vinci, ISG, Pinsent Masons, Amnesty International and Magenta.

The evening included some interesting talks by David Jenkins from Amnesty International who shared his personal story and LGBT+ rights in Taiwan and Liam Wardley from Pinsent Masons who shared the journey of becoming Stonewall’s number 1 LGBT-inclusive employer 2019.

With Diversity and Inclusion becoming a major part in the working environment, it is important that we as a recruitment partner in the Facilities Management and Built Environment sectors understand the obstacles that arise for the LGBT+ community, and what we can actively be doing when we are recruiting for the next best talent.

But what can the facilities management and built environment sectors be doing to make the workplace more inclusive? The answer is there is no silver bullet, but to allow individuals to bring their full selves to work and allowing them to be the person they are. In addition to this, colleagues and stakeholders need to be supportive of each other, non-judgemental and open-minded.

The LGBT+ in FM was founded in 2016 with the mission of making the facilities management sector the most attractive, inclusive and supportive industry for the LGBT+ community in the UK and Ireland.
